SENSEI JOE COSTA – CHIEF INSTRUCTOR/OWNER
Shihan Joe started his martial arts journey in1991. With daily training and hard work, he received his Black Belt in 1993. Studying under Evan Pantazi, in 2001, he received his 3rd degree Black Belt. Shihan Joe also received a Black Belt in Kyusho Kenpo under George Dillman in 2001. Loving the Martial arts and wanting to share what he has learned, Karate International of Windham was opened in 2002. Shihan runs the studio with his wife Sensei Shannon and his 4 kids , which have all earned the rank of Black Belt. In 2004, Shihan started his training under Robert Lamatinna from Tokyo Joe’s and received his 4th and 5th degree Black belts. On June 20th, 2015, Shihan earned his 6th degree Black Belt in front of The Kenpo Council of Grand Masters and Robert Lamattina. Today Shihan and his staff continue to grow in the learning and teaching of the martial Arts.
SENSEI SHANNON COSTA – SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
Sensei Shannon started her Martial Arts training when she was 9 years old with her 4 sisters in the art of Kenpo. She now holds the rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt). She believes that the Martial Arts has many benefits and can help mold an individual into a successful and well-balanced person. When she is not in the Dojo, she is raising four kids who have also earned their Black Belts.
SENSEI DAVID PIERSON - SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
Sensei David started karate at Karate International of windham in January of 2004, when he was 11 years old. He earned his First Degree Black Belt in August of 2008. In August of 2010, he earned his Second Degree Black Belt. In the same year, he became a certified instructor. He also was the recipient of the 2010 T. S. Leadership award. In December of 2010 he was awarded his Eagle Scout through Windham Boy Scout troop 266. Sensei David earned his Third Degree Black Belt in September of 2013. He continues to train under Shihan Joe as well as with Grandmaster Bobby LaMattina of the Tokyo Joe's system. When not at karate, Sensei David enjoys reading comic books, mountain biking, and hiking/camping. He is currently a student at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, studying exercise physiology. He plans to someday open his own karate school.
HANNAH COSTA - JUNIOR INSTRUCTOR
Hannah is the oldest daughter of Shihan Joe and Sensei Shannon. She started training in the Martial Arts when she was 2 years old. Hannah believes she excels in school and in soccer because what she learns in karate; the focus discipline and confidence helped her achieve high honors. She received her 3rd degree Black Belt in 2016. She is passionate about martial arts, and loves to work with other students to encourage their love for it as well.
